Five Industries Exploring Machine Learning in 2022

Sparkler Soft archive24 October 20221 min read

Our October 2022 industry overview looked at five areas exploring machine learning: healthcare, transport, finance, retail and property valuation. Each used prediction or pattern recognition, but with very different data and consequences for mistakes.

From clinical data to customer choices

Healthcare examples included medical-image analysis and processing clinical documentation. Transport research focused on interpreting sensor data for automated driving. In finance, the article discussed fraud detection and credit-risk assessment; in retail, it highlighted product recommendations based on customer behaviour.

A common dependency: useful data

Property valuation rounded out the list, using historical transactions and property characteristics to estimate prices. Across these examples, the recurring issue was how well the available data represented the situation being predicted. The article captured areas of interest in 2022; it did not establish that every application was mature or that predictions would be accurate in every setting.
